College Essays

Craft college admission essays! I can help!

A strategic essay can make the critical difference in college admission. Especially for selective colleges choosing from a pool of stellar students, your essay helps admissions officers know you as an individual rather than as just a set of scores and grades.

I won’t write your essays for you. But from start to completion of your essays, I strategize with you about what to write, review your drafts, and assure that your completed essays portray you in a way that is authentic, error-free, and compelling.

I don’t flinch from tough assignments: if you’re a straight A student or a sports/music/arts superstar, I’ll help you convey your sterling qualities without seeming arrogant.

If, however, your story veers the other way–dropped out/kicked out of school, done time, flunked courses, etc.—I’ll work with you to help convince colleges that you’ve not only mended your ways but have learned valuable lessons from your mistakes. This will be the truth because by the time you’ve finished writing your essays with me, you will have!

“Anne Knight provided two very important services to our family: those of writing coach and stress reliever. Anne guided both of my boys through their essay-writing for college applications, insisting on clear and organized thought as well as creative presentation of their points. She helped them to define and refine their ideas, always maintaining their own voices in subjects near and dear to them so that the essays never sounded as if someone else were directing them. This took away the stress so many of my friends experienced as they tried to edit their children's essays, and in turn attempted to change the topic or direction of those essays to something they felt was more appropriate. My husband and I were able to "let go" and accept that if Anne thought the topic worthy and something that would stand out, then we could as well. The results were essays that grabbed your interest and reflected the personalities of our boys."

“Working with Anne was always such a delight! In addition to turning my own words and messages into cogent, fluent writing, she taught me a lot of grammar and writing rules I probably should have already learned at that point of high school! My writing truly transformed. I soon even became impressed with myself! And it was all thanks to Anne. Anne is energetic, hospitable, and excellent at what she does. Because of Anne, I was accepted by many universities including Boston University, Pepperdine, and more. Anne also helped me win over schools with brilliant appeal letters if they didn't accept me right away. I ultimately ended up attending my top choice college, Santa Clara University, after my appeal was accepted. I owe my unique college adventures to Anne. I will forever appreciate her and her dedication to her students.”

“Anne has taught me an incredible amount about language and analysis of literature. I'll always remember her purple pen marks, liberally covering my works, that posed critical questions and comments about my essays and started my thinking about what I was writing and how I could improve it. It was truly a rewarding experience not only to analyze works of complex literature with her but also to reflect on my own voice as a writer, leaving me with skills that I will take to college and beyond."

“As a parent for whom English will always be his second language and whose college years were spent outside of the United States, I felt quite anxious about the task of helping my son with college application process, especially as it concerned writing good, powerful essays.

I knew very soon after Matthew began studying with Anne that my worries were over. He enjoyed the sessions, and there was clear indication of Anne's professional, methodical, and creative approach to developing his writing skills. In just a few sessions, he learned how to structure the short 25-minute essays for SAT. While developing essays for college applications, Matthew found in Anne a thoughtful and demanding advisor who helped him find the ways to express himself in the most effective way.

I would not hesitate to recommend Anne's coaching services to anybody as I already have on a few occasions."
